Florida Lawmakers failed to pass regulations for hemp this year

Florida Politics has reported that Florida’s legislative session for 2025 ended without lawmakers agreeing on a regulatory structure for intoxicating products made from hemp.

Rep. Michelle Salzman (R) said the work group dedicated to the issue was unable to resolve hemp regulation proposals by the House and Senate — one major difference was that the Senate proposal included a ban on synthetic hemp products, while other differences included packaging, advertising,  and testing regulations.

Salzman stated in his report that “we are changing gears.” As we close the session in 2025, “we will not focus on this legislation.”

“Our Chamber remains focused on issues affecting all Floridians: the budget balance, housing, insurance, and condo safety. Our commitment to hemp regulation that is responsible remains unwavering. “We look forward to continuing our work in future Sessions in order to protect consumers, and to provide a path forward for responsible players of this growing industry. — Salzman, via Florida Politics

Florida legislators approved a package of hemp regulations last year. However, Gov. Ron DeSantis vetoed this proposal. The proposal was vetoed by Ron DeSantis (R).
