The b Letter U.S. President Donald Trump, R. Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) and Rep. Melanie Stansbury (D-NM) have called on the administration to end arrests for cannabis, which they say – along with the enactment of other policies – could help the government save trillions of dollars.Â
These lawmakers point out that eliminating unnecessary federal arrests, and cutting waste from federal detention program alone would save the government millions of dollars.
“The federal government is spending billions each year to detain and enforce people who do not pose a risk to public security, such as elderly patients and those with terminal illnesses, or incarcerating them for minor violations of parole and probation.” — Warren and Stansbury in the letterÂ
In the letter, the legislators focus on the “failures” of Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). They note that Warren sent the policy suggestions to Musk back in January but that both he and DOGE ignored them. Â
Warren and Stansbury also call on Trump to take action against healthcare profiteering and to improve Department of Defense contracts.Â
