Mike Tyson, a retired champion boxer and owner of a cannabis company, toured a Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) lab with a federal prosecutor this week—donning a DEA jacket as he promoted his marijuana brand’s commitment to safety and learned about fentanyl-related issues.
As advocates continue to monitor developments in DEA’s cannabis rescheduling proceedings initiated under the Biden administration that have largely stalled, Tyson got a look behind-the-curtains at the federal agency’s New York City-based lab, where he was shown various confiscated drugs—from marijuana to psilocybin to fentanyl—and informed about the increased risk of contamination in the illicit marketplace.
Tyson, speaking to The New York Post said: “I only recently learned that just one pin of fentanyl could kill a person.” “I never learned about fentanyl before, so this was new for me. “I’m here just to learn about the laws.”
Tyson 2.0 is the cannabis company that Tyson, the retired athlete, has created. He says he “tries to make cannabis safe for the entire universe” by using his products.
Tyson has also admitted to his use of other substances, including cocaine and alcohol. However, he says he’s not used them for many years. This experience influenced his desire to make sure that marijuana is produced with strict quality standards.
Alina Habba – the U.S. lawyer for New Jersey’s District – accompanied Tyson during the DEA tour. She stated that there is a “real toxic problem”. [in the illicit drug supply]”That’s what the truth is.”
“They are such proponents, the Tysons, of safe use—and making sure it’s not from China or a pesticide,” Habba, who previously worked in Trump’s White House and for his Super PAC, said.
Tyson posted on X Tuesday after the tour: “How come cannabis is a schedule 1 drug, but fentanyl which is deadly to millions of people is a schedule ll drug?” There is a problem that needs to be addressed.
A day prior to the visit, the White House posted a photo that showed Tyson standing with Donald Trump during a UFC fight, a moment described as powerful by Tyson’s cannabis firm. Although it is unclear whether they discussed drug policies during their meeting, the White House shared a photo of Tyson with President Donald Trump at a UFC event.
Trump’s silence on cannabis policy since taking office is notable, even though he endorsed rescheduling and industry banking, as well as a Florida ballot measure legalizing adult use, on the campaign trail.
