WRAL reported that a new North Carolina proposal to limit sales of THC-infused drinks and gummies and ban the use of synthetic hemp products to those over 21 years old was approved by two Senate committees Tuesday. This bill passed bipartisan and now moves to the Senate Judiciary Committee.
If the bill is adopted in its current form, businesses that sell hemp-derived products containing cannabinoids would be required to obtain a license from the state. Report: The proposal will also establish THC limitations, product testing standards, and ban packaging appealing to children.
Jeff Jackson (D), Attorney General, said that the new measure is “long-overdue,” especially in regards to products being available for children.
The bill has been written keeping the best interests of our community in mind. It will ensure that products sold to minors are free of toxins, synthetics, and other harmful substances. — State Sen. Amy Galey (R), via WRAL
North Carolina Gov. Josh Stein, a Democratic Party member from North Carolina, has recently stated his support for the decriminalization of cannabis. He also announced the formation of a new cannabis policy advisory council.
