Oklahoma physicians will be required to receive training in order to recommend medical marijuana to their patients. Bill Signed Monday by Governor. Kevin Stitt (R). Prior to this, state rules required that physicians be in good standing before making recommendations for the use of medical cannabis. They also had to consider whether “accepted standard a prudent and reasonable physician would adhere” when making such a recommendation.Â
Under the new law, the Oklahoma Medical Marijuana Authority (OMMA) will collaborate with medical professional organizations to create initial training requirements and periodic refresher training programs for physicians who recommend patients to the state’s medical cannabis program.Â
Stitt also rejected a Bill It would also have been necessary for OMMA’s Executive Advisory Council, to establish a Task Force to investigate and offer recommendations regarding potential limits on the purchase of medical cannabis and its possession by patients. Â
Stitt, in his veto letter, said that such a group would be like “holding a gathering to discuss meetings.”Â
“Creating yet another advisor group is bureaucracy masquerading as productivity.” Stitt said in his message of veto that we don’t want more roundtables or panels which end up gathering dust. We need leadership, real solutions, and action. Â
