According to a trade association, those who are collecting signatures for the 2026 ballot initiative in Massachusetts that aims to repeal its $1.6 billion adult use cannabis program might not be telling voters everything they want them too.

Massachusetts Cannabis Business Association – MCBA – accused anti-prohibitionists who collected signatures to support their ballot initiative of organized voter fraud.A Bill to Restore Sensible Marijuana Policy.”

The MCBA referred to reports and personal accounts posted on Reddit or Facebook as well as a journalist’s report. The association claims that “unscrupulous” signature contractors are using fake cover pages for ballot petitions unrelated to them. Waltham voters have reported being tricked into signing petitions requesting affordable housing and same-day registration.

“Online news, social media, and the personal experiences of multiple voters across Massachusetts clearly demonstrate that these for-hire, out-of-state signature crews are using deceptive tactics to trick people into signing the petitions needed for the cannabis repeal questions to appear on the ballot,” MCBA President and CEO David O’Brien said in an Oct. 31 press release.

The MCBA pointed out that a Reddit Post On October 20, Wilmington registered voters accused signature-gatherers of using suspicious tactics.

The post reads: “A man approached me at Market Basket this morning and asked that I sign a petition so kids don’t get sent to prison for minor marijuana crimes.” The sign that said D.A.R.E. was behind him. To keep children off drugs. “Keep kids off drugs” is the goal. “Be sure to read what you are signing.”

According to the MCBA, voters in other cities reported receiving signatures from people claiming the question would strengthen the fentanyl-testing requirements for marijuana and increase buffer zones between schools and dispensaries.

CBT Registered Massachusetts voters have also reported feeling deceived.

Josh Wallis was told CBT The signature gathering team “willfully” misled potential signers outside Wegman’s in Medford on October 27, 2010.

A solicitor from 25-10B approached me and said that the petition he had was to “get fentanyl out of the streets.” When I said that this wasn’t true and that I had read that the petition was to recriminalize marijuana, he was furious.

What is the petition? You can also find out more about the following: The only thing to do is reverse cannabis legalization that Massachusetts’ voters passed in 2016 with a majority of 54%. This would include the end of the state’s licensed commercial marketplace including dispensary, cultivation and manufacturing. According to an industry-hiring platform, the cannabis industry in Massachusetts employs 27,000 or so full-time employees. Vangst.

According to the proposed legislation, possession of up to an ounce of marijuana or five grams of concentrated concentrate by adults 21 years and older would be decriminalized, just as gifting of these quantities between adults would also remain legal. Also, medical cannabis programs in the state would be still allowed.

The MCBA says that signature gatherers don’t always convey the exact details.

O’Brien stated that “these out-of state crews travel from state-to-state collecting signatures. But they are having difficulty finding Massachusetts residents who support repealing our effective cannabis laws, which has led to the success of our cannabis industry.” This is an example of voter fraud, and people should contact their local council to report it.

The MCBA urged those voters who believed they had been misled by the legal system to submit a petition. Please contact your town clerk Request that the signatories not be certified.

The MCBA also reported “bait-and switch” tactics in Burlington. Chicopee. Brockton. Longmeadow.

Chris Faraone reported, as co-founder and president of Boston Institute for Nonprofit Journalism, that petition signers in the Boston area were being misled by signature collectors. Trader Joes Hanover is a city in Germany. Walmart Weymouth is a town in Dorset.

“I have now confirmed … that the guy collecting the signatures out there is not telling people what the ballot initiative is really about,” Faraone said of the Trader Joe’s. “All they’re saying is that ‘sign this so that we stop throwing kids in jail for weed.’ Guess what? We’re not putting kids in prison for weed.

The proposal would impose a $100 civil fine and forfeiture of the product on anyone who possesses between an ounce to two ounces. Those under 21 years old would be required to attend a drug education course and complete community service.

Faraone says that what the signature-gatherers don’t tell people is that adult use sales have generated more than $1.5 billion for the state in excise taxes and sales tax since December 2018. He also claims that tens or thousands of businesses and jobs would be affected by the elimination of the state regulated system.

Meg Sanders told us that Canna Provisions is an employee-owned cannabis dispensary located in Lee and Holyoke Massachusetts. CBT Freedom was the topic of discussion earlier in the month.

We would be voting to restart the war on drugs, but it has already failed. It has failed. She said, “We have proven that it is a failed policy and war on drugs has been a conflict against people.” “I believe that removing the right to home-grow is a terrible idea for many different reasons. Some people can only afford cannabis this way. “I think that it is very, very crucial that we realize that the drug war has been brought back, and this is not okay.”

Sanders reminded the voters to be prepared for signature gathering at the polling places on the 4th of November and to make sure they read through the petition before signing.

She said, “If the document doesn’t state what you claim to be on it, do not sign it.”
