Last week’s announcement of rescheduling threw many operators into a bind. For now, the US medical cannabis industry is much smaller than other markets and as a result, it’s not viewed by many operators as a high priority.

The US Federal policy is now closer to European standards. This is because the legal framework underpinning the US rescheduling, which was based on a section of the Controlled Substances Act that was designed to align US drug laws with the 1961 UN Single Convention on Narcotic Drugs. It’s the same international regulatory framework used in Europe for medical cannabis.
