Seventeen percent of Americans said they smoke cannabis, according to a Gallup poll released Monday. The figure ties the previous record high found by the pollster in 2023.

Gallup polled Americans in 2024 and found that 13% said they had smoked cannabis. By 2025, this number rose to 14 %.

Another 15% of those polled indicated they consume cannabis edibles, including 17% of women and 12% of men; comparatively, 15% of women and 18% of men said they smoked cannabis.

The majority of respondents who either smoked or consumed cannabis edibles were 30- to 49-years old (25% and 20%, respectively). Twenty-three percent of 18- to 29-year-olds polled indicated they smoked cannabis, while 19% said they ate cannabis edibles. Among respondents 50- to 64-years old, 10% said they smoked cannabis, while 12% said they consumed cannabis edibles. The lowest level of cannabis smokers and edible consumers were 65-and-older (5% and 7%, respectively).

Cannabis consumption was more popular among non-college graduates than college graduates, the pollster found, with 20% of the non-college graduate cohort saying the smoke cannabis with 17% consuming edibles, compared to 11% and 12%, respectively, of those that graduated college.

The poll found Americans about evenly split on the effect of cannabis on most consumers, with 47% saying it has a very (9%) or somewhat (38%) positive effect, and 46% saying it has a very (16%) or somewhat (30%) negative effect. U.S. adults were also split in the two previous polls, with a slight positive lean (53%) in 2022 and a slight negative lean (51%) in 2024.
