Montgomery, Alabama prepares for its first-ever upscale shopping center. medical cannabis dispensaryCallie’s Apothecary is a new addition to the patient’s access options in Washington. WVTM 13 news reported on May 14, 2026 that the dispensary would begin operating in the near future, after the product has been tested.

According to Hemp Gazette, this opening is another step forward in Alabama’s Medical Cannabis Program, which previously saw the registration of doctors authorized to recommend medicinal cannabis as well as the awarding business licenses for cultivators and processing companies.

Advancing Medical Cannabis Access to Alabama

Callie’s Apothecary is the final link in the supply chain that allows patients to access medical cannabis. The first step is licensed cannabis growers like Antoine Mordican who are responsible for cultivating the plants. Homestead Health Jasper is one of the processors that transforms raw cannabis material into different medical cannabis products.

  • Cultivation: Growers, like Antoine Mordican, initiate the supply chains.
  • Processing: Homestead Health is one of the companies that converts raw cannabis to finished cannabis products.
  • Dispensing: Callie’s Apothecary is the last point of purchase for eligible patients.

Patients who are certified physicians will be able to purchase these processed products at the dispensary. These include tablets, gums, and tinctures.

The Dispensary Experience and Operations

Vince Schilleci is the owner of Callie’s Apothecary. He stated that the dispensary hopes to have 250 patients served in its first week. Patients can choose from a variety of forms to ingest the products. Schilleci said that the THC content of the products remains constant, but the way they are consumed varies.

In order to be eligible for Alabama medical marijuana, patients must have an approved condition. Schilleci cited depression, chronic illness, and terminal disease as three areas where patients are likely to demand medical cannabis. Alora Alora’s Frank expressed a desire to ease patient access. She has previous experience with Florida’s Medical Cannabis Industry.

Prices and coverage

Schilleci has emphasized efforts made to keep costs reasonable. Price for 100mg of THC, as an example is under US$60. In Alabama, medical insurance won’t cover the costs of cannabis-based products for medical use.

Market Outlook and Regulatory Context

Callie’s Apothecary’s opening marks the official implementation of Alabama’s medical marijuana framework. Alabama residents have received medical cannabis cards, but the process to obtain products is still awaiting the opening of the dispensaries. The opening of dispensaries provides patients with a point of contact after they have completed the first stages of consultations and card purchases.

Callie’s Apothecary, for an initial period, is expected to be the only retail medical cannabis outlet in Alabama. The dispensary management has indicated that, due to this initial limited access, patients in other areas of Alabama may be required to travel to Montgomery for their prescribed medical cannabis products.
