Former Republican Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz, a staunch supporter of President Trump and one-time nominee for U.S. Attorney General, was photographed on a plane reviewing a lucrative contract for providing services, including “administration-related guidance,” to a firm affiliated with the Florida cannabis company Trulieve, The Daily Beast reports.
It’s not clear from the photos — which a passenger seated behind him captured and then posted on social media — whether the document Gaetz was reviewing was a formal offer or even a draft proposal that the ex-congressman was working on for himself. It appears that the document contains a $250,000 payment for Gaetz if “the issue” “resolves”, although it is unclear to what “MATTER “refers. Additionally, the document appeared to include a $2,000,000 “additional ‘Super Success Fee,'” the report said.
Trulieve appears in the document by mistake as “Truleive.” Trulieve, the biggest medical cannabis company of Florida, has invested $164 million in legalization attempts in Florida.
Gaetz may have been unpopular with Congress but he is popular among President Trump. After gaining the White House, Trump nominated Gaetz as Attorney General. Gaetz, however, who immediately resigned his seat in the House after being nominated, withdrawn his name amid strong opposition from those even within the Republican Party.
Gaetz, who confirmed that someone had recorded him on a plane without his knowledge, wrote on X: “It appears that someone sat behind me and took the photos.”
