Nebraska Lawmakers will Hold public forums on Medical Cannabis

Nebraska State Senators are holding public forums over the weekend, according to The Nebraska Examiner. They will address issues related to medical cannabis and discuss legislative proposals.

The lawmakers behind the events — state Sens. John Cavanaugh (D), Rick Holdcroft (R), and Ben Hansen (D) — say they want to hear from the public on the issue of legalizing and implementing a medical cannabis program, which voters overwhelmingly approved last November. The lawmakers are interested in discussing the legislation that Hansen proposed to implement the voter-approved medical cannabis program. This bill was stalled earlier this month by the Nebraska General Affairs Committee.

“Since our elected officials have failed to take action, I’d like to offer the opportunity for citizens to voice their concerns.” — Sen. Cavanaugh, via the Nebraska Examiner

This weekend (May 3-5) is the date for these forums. The forums are scheduled to take place at Carpenters Union Hall on La Vista, Saturday, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. ; at University of Nebraska at Omaha Thompson Alumni Center on Sundae from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. ; and at Southeast Community College on Lincoln’s campus on Monday between 5 p.m.
