Nebraska legislators are set to revisit a bill that would implement the medical marijuana program approved by voters. WOWT reports. Two weeks ago, the General Affairs Committee made a similar decision. Vote against The legislation is being advanced.
Legislators will examine the new proposal once they reach a compromise that allows only medical cannabis obtained via the state program be vaporized, not smoked. They also retain the existing state law on smoking cannabis flowers. A compromise was reached that removes post-traumatic anxiety disorder (PTSD) from the program’s list of eligibility requirements.
Crista Eggers, with Nebraskans For Medical Marijuana (Nebraskans for Medical Marijuana), called this development a “huge win.”
We believe that today is a big win for advocates. It shows legislators are listening and willing to dialogue on this issue. After fighting for more than a decade we do not yet know the future, but seeing a bill pass that adheres the the wishes of the voters, and also includes safeguards, regulations, to ensure a quality medical program in the state, represents a major step forward. — Eggers, in a statement, via WOWT
