Missouri Hemp Groups Want to De-Regulate Cannabis through Ballot Initiative – MEDCAN24

Hemp businesses in Missouri have organized an initiative petition for the deregulation of cannabis to be sold in stores selling alcohol and tobacco. Missouri Independent reports. Reports.

The idea is that the Missouri Constitution should be amended to eliminate the regulatory mandate. “We devolved regulatory authority to the Missouri General Assembly where it belongs. — Thampy, during the call, via the Independent

Thampy has not finalized the language, but he indicated it will ensure that cannabis remains legal until the new laws are passed by legislators, eliminate criminal charges for possessing cannabis in excess of legal limits and maintain current tax rates.

The proposal comes amid a crackdown on hemp businesses in the state – last month, state Attorney General Andrew Bailey (R) Sending 18 letters of cease and Desist Demanding that hemp retailers cease selling hemp flowers products in the State.

Thampy said to the Independent, the campaign aims “to allow marijuana operators the opportunity to compete for the dollar of the consumers in the mass markets as hemp already does.” However, Andrew Mullins, executive director for the Missouri Cannabis Trade Association, called the plan a “bait and switch.”

“Missourians won’t take away hundreds of millions to local communities and veterans or our justice system,” said he in an interview with the Independent. “All because they hope politicians will replace them later.”

Advocates of the plan anticipate that the Missouri Secretary State will receive the proposed language by the end of August.
