Pennsylvania New Proposal Seeks to Legalize Cannabis Adult Use-MEDCAN24

Bipartisan Pennsylvania legislation introduced on Thursday by senators. FOX43 reports that Dan Laughlin and Sharif Street, both Republicans, want to make Pennsylvania into the 25th U.S. State to legalize cannabis for adult use.

SB 120, if approved, would legalize marijuana for adults over 21 and limit personal possession to 30 grams flower, 5 grams concentrate and 1,000 milligrams THC per infused beverage or edible product. Bill would create a Cannabis Regulation Board that would have the “general and exclusive regulatory authority” for the industry.

Legalizing marijuana allows the state to regulate this industry and ensure that the products are checked for potency, safety, and purity. It is a way to protect consumers, but it also fights against the illegal black market that has no standards of safety. – SB120: An excerpt from the official introduction memo

In a report, the marijuana advocacy group ResponsiblePA stated that the proposal was “a bipartisan effort of historic proportions” and would allow budget discussions to be continued in both chambers. Cannabis legalization will have a major impact on the budget for 2025-2026.

In early 2016, Pennsylvania House members passed a marijuana legalization bill in an extremely narrow vote (102-101). However, the measure, which also included a dispensary run by state, was quickly rejected by key Senate Committee.
