Donald Trump, President of the United States says that the Trump administration is “looking” at a proposal for reclassifying marijuana. “We will make a decision over the next couple weeks.”
In response to a question about recent reports that Trump is considering moving marijuana from Schedule I into Schedule III under the Controlled Substances Act, Trump stated during a White House news conference that they are “just looking” at the matter and that it was “too early” to make any decisions. Trump also added that this issue “is very complex.”
“Some people like it. Some people hate it—people hate the whole concept of marijuana, because it does bad for the children [and] “It is bad that people older than children are being treated this way,” said the president. “But we’re looking at reclassification, and we’ll make a determination over the next few weeks—and that determination, hopefully, will be the right one.”
Trump supported rescheduling during his campaign, but appeared to be less enthusiastic about the reform at the podium, where he focused more on federal interventions to combat crime in Washington D.C.
Trump stated that marijuana is a very complicated topic. “I have heard some great things in relation to medical marijuana.” [cannabis]”But medically speaking, there are some good things I have heard about pain relief and other issues. However, in general terms it’s not all that great.” But medical, for pain and various things, I’ve heard some pretty good things—but for other things, I’ve heard some pretty bad things.”
