Sven Glass: From the Soul and Blown for the Soul
Sven Glass, the Oregon-based artist who created it, pours his emotions into every step of his creative process. The result is stunning.

Michael Svensson prefers the name Sven.
A functional glass piece is more than an aesthetic work.
His glasswork must reflect his creativity, respect of the artistic process, and commitment to growth. It’s no wonder that he was drawn to glass blowing as an art form.
In his teens, while he was a very successful skateboarder, Eusheen wentines was just starting to create glass art. This was the first time he saw glass being blow. Goines continued to blow glass a decade later. Sven became so inspired by her work that he moved from San Francisco to Oregon where he learned some of the basic techniques that would help him create his own pieces in the future.
“I’ve only been blowing for about 8 years, but art has always intrigued me,” says the artist. At first I made little spoon pipes, like many of us. “I remember feeling like I had a real grasp of what I was doing for the first time. The first time I did it, the feeling was so awesome that is hard to explain. “I’ve done it since.”
Over the years, his work evolved from simple pipes into intricate, delicately detailed, multicolored pieces of glass. The latest collection in his work, ranging between water pipes and dab-rigs, highlights one of Sven’s favorite things to reproduce: flowers. Sven fell in love, especially with the shape and beauty of flowers.
Sven explains, “When I started, I searched for some direction. I looked for my voice, and I tried to find out how I could express myself.” Ginger was an early artist who I found to be very inspiring. “I was attracted to their raw beauty and they taught me to use that to enhance my work.”
He says that the functionality and appearance of each piece are equally important. He finds freedom and inspiration in the creative work he creates, but also special significance in its use.

The weeds have not grown. He couldn’t think of anything more perfect.
“I remember realizing one day that I had to be the most creative person possible every single morning,” says he. When it dawned upon me, I felt liberated. The journey has been so rewarding. It’s so great that I can do anything I want. “It’s become an important part of my personal development and the way I express myself.
