7 Conditions that Medical Marijuana can treat

In the last four decades the use of medical marijuana to treat diseases has increased. Cannabis has gained credibility in medical circles as an alternative treatment for chronic diseases and conditions. Although marijuana has not proven to be the cure for chronic conditions and diseases, it’s still a viable option. The Ultimate in Getting the Right Away It can be used as a solution to end disease, or a cure in general. In addition, it may help to soothe chronic illnesses, prevent diseases from spreading rapidly, and replace opioids for emotional and physical discomfort.

Here’s how marijuana can help treat seven different diseases.

1. You can also find out more about Depression

In a University of Buffalo Research Institute on Addictions study, researchers tested the effects of marijuana on chronic stress on rats. They then compared this to human reactions. In this experiment, researchers found that when the rats were bound by rodent restraints for long periods of time — a source of chronic stress —  the production of their brain’s endocannabinoids rapidly decreased. When humans are in long-term, stressful situations, the receptors affect their ability to process emotions, judge thoughts and act. They can also impact their cognitive abilities to deal with pain and anxiety. Depression can occur when there is an insufficient amount of endocannabinoids produced by the brain. The endocannabinoid receptor system can be restored by marijuana, which can release cannabinoids including tetrahydrocannabinol.

2. Anxiety

As with depression, anxiety also reduces endocannabinoids in the brain. This inhibits the ability of an individual to deal with stress and pain. The use of marijuana for anxiety treatment can have either a positive or negative effect: it can reduce anxiety, or even increase anxiety. Although marijuana’s purpose is to calm a person, certain individuals have a brain chemistry which does not respond well to the chemicals of the plant. Some people have reported that marijuana is able to reduce anxiety, calm down the fight-or-flight reaction to stress, and provide a calming “high”.

3. Epilepsy

Medical scientists created a CBD formulation that has been proven to be safe because it had little effect on epilepsy patient’s sensitive psychoactivity. Some of the first tests with marijuana, such as a 2015 test at the NYU Langone Medical Center, actually demonstrated that it had the ability to suppress seizures. Due to this, marijuana compounds can be tailored to an epileptic patient’s condition.

4. Alzheimer’s

Marijuana reduces hallucinations and improves sleep habits. It also stops the aggressive behavior of Alzheimer’s patients. Alzheimer’s is primarily caused by beta-amyloid protein production, which causes plaques to form in the brain. This can also reduce amino acid peptides that are necessary for proper function. Marijuana can prevent Alzheimer’s by slowing the buildup of proteins in an individual’s mind.

5. HIV/AIDS

HIV weakens your immune system. However, marijuana can help to ease the discomfort and disorientation of symptoms such as severe headaches, nausea, joint and muscle pain, and loss of appetite. This study conducted by Spain from 2008 also proved that marijuana can prevent the chemical reactions which lead to HIV compounds.

6. Cancer

Although marijuana is not a cure for cancer, or a way to lessen its symptoms, many patients who are undergoing cancer treatment find that it reduces the amount of discomfort they experience. Patients who are using medical marijuana experience less nausea and vomiting from their chemotherapy treatment. Cannabinoids can also improve appetite, and ease neuropathic symptoms that are caused by severe nerve damage from chemotherapy.

7. Substance Abuse

It may seem counterintuitive but recovering drug addicts are able to use medical marijuana in order to reduce the symptoms of addiction. This includes reducing unwanted cravings for drugs and decreasing the physical and emotional signs of addiction. Cannabidiol is a chemical compound that binds with brain receptors, causing a “safer high” while countering the mental and physical damage from long-term abuse of drugs. Finally, marijuana is a great alternative to addictive painkillers because it works on the same receptors in the brain as opioids.
