There’s a good chance that you, or someone you love, has committed the party faux pas of drinking alcohol too much and adding marijuana to it. A few drinks with a couple of joints may seem like an easy social mix, but it can turn out to be a nauseous and seemingly endless experience. As your body responds differently to alcohol and marijuana, the effects can be unexpected. On many dark and gloomy mornings, I have doubted the possibility of combining alcohol with cannabis. It’s too early to tell.
In the interim, I know from experience that it is best to have both together. You can even go further and replace your alcoholic drink with mocktails infused with cannabis, which are beneficial for the body as opposed to alcohol’s known effects. You can now enjoy a natural plant as an alternative to drinking poisonous alcohol.
However, the question remains: How can one enjoy marijuana consumption in a way that is as acceptable and harmless as drinking a beverage containing alcohol?
We welcome you to the world “mocktails”, cannabis-infused beverages that can be a tasty, subtle and effective alternative to alcoholic drinks. Drinking cannabis can have a quick effect. Liquids are processed faster by the body than edibles. Allow it to settle for at least a 45-90 minute period before you continue drinking.
It is impossible to go back and reduce your drinking.
Cannabis is not toxic, however, if you consume too much for your tolerance, the side effects may be uncomfortable and even overwhelming.
This recipe is for a simple syrup infused with cannabis that you can use to create your own cannabis mocktails. The process takes some patience and time, but it is worth the effort.
Simple Lemon Syrup with Cannabis Infusion Recipe
INGREDIENTS:
Filtered water, 1 cup
One cup of sugar
Twelve drops of cold-pressed Lemon Oil
Use 2 teaspoons of corn syrup
Half gram BHO cannabis concentrate
Sunflower liquid lecithin, 1/2 gram (or 1 teaspoon), is available in most health food shops.
DIRECTIONS:
- Bring the cup of water to a gentle simmer. Add 1 cup sugar It is helpful to dampen the sugar slightly before adding the water. This will make the crystals more easily incorporated.Take care not to boil the mixture, as this will alter the ratio of water-to-sugar in syrup through evaporation. Do not boil the mix, since this can alter the water to sugar ratio in the syrup.
- Cover the pan loosely with the lid and let the mixture simmer on low heat for five minutes. Don’t stir as sugar can crystallize at this point if foreign particles are introduced. Let it cool slightly before continuing.
- Heat cannabis concentrate to a steady 250º F degrees in a glass or stainless steel dish that will be big enough to later accommodate the addition of 1 cup of syrup.
- Continue to heat until the bubbles stop forming at their maximum, approximately 5 minutes. The temperature of your stove and the other variables can make it difficult to predict the time. It is best to judge the timing visually. To ensure an even decarboxylation, gently stir the concentrated mixture with a wooden skewer as it heats.
- Mix the oil thoroughly. Add 10 drops essential lemon oil to 1 tablespoon corn syrup. Combine thoroughly.
- Stir thoroughly while heating at 175o F for 5 minutes. Stir thoroughly while heating at 175º F for 5 minutes. Take heat off.
- Stir vigorously as you add 1 cup simple syrup quickly to the hot cannabis oil mixture.
- Heat the syrup to 160º F. Using a wet pastry brush to keep sides free of crystals, keep an eye on the mixture and stir with a very clean whisk periodically to break up the foam. It can take as long as 3 hours to dissolve the oil. The key to a successful cannabis oil emulsion, is patience and a low temperature.
- Once the oil dissipates to the sheen of drops, remove the sugar syrup from the stove and let it cool before stirring. Mix the syrup vigorously, steadily, and thoroughly with a clean whisk.
- Pour the syrup into an airtight container. TIP: Use a scraper to make sure that you get all the goodness from the sides.
- Store in a cool, dark place for up to a week. Label the syrup clearly. The infused syrup can be easily re-mixed by gently stirring it.
Dosage: One half-gram of BHO contains approximately 350 mg THC if your BHO is 70% THC. One tablespoon of THC is found in every cup of syrup infused with 16 tablespoons.
