Nebraska Examiner: A proposal by the state to prohibit most hemp THC products stalled Friday after its principal sponsor, Sen. Kathleen Kauth of the Republican Party, requested that the bill “be passed over” due to the uncertainty surrounding the proposal.
The bill would have banned all products that contain hemp-derived THC, and cannabinoids except CBD. However, lawmakers must revisit the issue next year.
Ben Hansen was the only Republican in the Legislature who opposed the bill. He had pledged to fight it, if not modified to protect the medical cannabis program of California, as the current version could have “greatly impacted” that program.

Kauth’s proposal included an “extension of the consumer safe harbor” period until 2025, so that consumers can legally dispose any hemp-derived THC product. The report stated that under the proposed legislation, hemp products which would not be affected by the ban, would be subject to an extra 10% wholesale tax. This additional tax would then go towards property tax relief.
The bill made allowances to use mature hemp stalks in textiles and fibers.
Nebraska voters approved legalizing medical cannabis in the state a year ago, but legislators have failed to adopt any reforms.
