Trump’s Pick To Lead DEA Says Marijuana Rescheduling Review Will Be ‘One Of My First Priorities’ In The Job

If confirmed, Donald Trump’s nominee for head of the Drug Enforcement Administration will examine a proposal that would reschedule cannabis federally.

Terrance Cole, the DEA Administrator nominee nominated by the Biden Administration, has repeatedly refused to endorse the proposed rule that would move cannabis from Schedule I of the Controlled Substances Act to Schedule III.

Cole, during the Senate Judiciary Committee confirmation hearing of Cole’s nomination to the Senate Judiciary Committee, said: “If I am confirmed, one of my priorities will be to find out where we stand in the administrative processes when I arrive at DEA.” “I’m not familiar exactly where we are, but I know the process has been delayed numerous times—and it’s time to move forward.”

In response to a question about the move of marijuana from Schedule II to III, Mr. Bush said: “I would like to learn more about where this proposal comes from.” [agencies] Listen to experts, and understand the steps they’re taking.”

Cole responded to a question from Senator Thom Tillis, R-NC at the hearing by saying that he believes it is appropriate to set up a “working group” to study the disparity between the marijuana laws of federally and the states in order to stay “ahead”

Cole has previously voiced concerns about the dangers of marijuana and linked its use to higher suicide risk among youth.
