IndiNature, a UK-based company that manufactures hemp insulation products, recently announced its product is eligible for government grants to improve home energy efficiency.
GBIS and ECO4 are UK home energy-efficiency grant schemes. ECO4 is geared towards low income households and groups that may be vulnerable, whereas GBIS provides insulation grants to a broader group of households.
The UK’s first natural fiber insulation for lofts to be granted an Ofgem Innovation Uplift was recently approved, allowing the product to qualify for both ECO4 (Green Building Initiative) and GBIS (green building initiative), resulting in a 25% saving.
Indinatures product is involved. IndiBreathe FlexThe firm claims the product not only makes it safer for installers, but also for building residents.
IndiNature insulations are made and grown in Britain. They have the lowest carbon embodied on the market, says the company. The soft, natural hemp fibers don’t cause irritation to the skin.
The soundproofing of internal partitions and floors can provide a reduction in noise levels that is better than 40db. IndiBreathe Flex is available in thermal conductivity ranges of 0.039W/m.K for 20-100mm and 0.042W/m.K for 120-140mm.
In other recent news from Indinature, the firm has announced its latest product – IndiBreathe Boards.
Instead of just using hemp fiber, the boards are made from the woody stalk (also known as hurd) of the plant.
This means that the medium-density semi-rigid board is good for internal wall retrofits, or the lining in new timber framings where they can create a complete system using our low density flexible batt insulations,” says the company.
IndiBreathe also provides an insulation of 0.039W/m.K.
IndiNature is a Scottish Borders-based company that was established in 2016. It manufactures its nonwovens products using a variety of natural fibres, including UK industrial hemp and jute.
Hemp is a great material for insulating applications, not only because of its thermal properties but also due to the acoustic qualities. It’s resistant to rodents, pests, and rot. And the environmentally-friendly treatments make it fire resistant. IndiNature says that hemp plants can reach 2-3 meters in height within a single season and capture between 8-15 tonnes of CO2. This makes it a green building material.
