The former president Donald Trump (R), posted on the Truth Social website over the weekend that he supported moving cannabis from Schedule I into Schedule III in federal law, and giving access to banking services to cannabis companies.
As President, I will focus my efforts on advancing research that unlocks the medical benefits of marijuana as a Schedule 3, and we’ll work with Congress in passing common-sense laws. This includes safe banking laws for companies authorized by state governments, and support for states to have marijuana laws like those passed in Florida which work well for its citizens. — Trump, in a statement posted on Sunday
Trump has released his latest position regarding cannabis policy, a little over a week since he broke with Florida Governor Rick Scott. Ron DeSantis and other Republicans believe that Trump will support Amendment 3 – the state’s proposed adult use cannabis initiative. Former President confirmed in a Sunday post that he supported the amendment legalizing cannabis.
As I stated previously, it’s time to stop arresting and imprisoning adults who possess small amounts of marijuana that are used for personal purposes. Trump said that we must implement smart regulation while also providing adults with access to tested, safe product. As a Floridian I will vote YES for Amendment 3 in November.
The long-awaited Issues page of the Kamala Harri’s (D) presidential campaign, which was posted to the website today, did not include any positions on cannabis.
In a statement made by the spokesperson for Harris’ campaign, Joseph Costello, Trump’s sudden and seemingly abrupt shift in his stance on cannabis is dishonest. Costello cited Trump’s administration’s dismal record when it comes to cannabis.
Costello stated in a press release that despite Trump’s blatant pandering he cannot hide his record of pushing marijuana reform further backwards. “As president, Trump cracked down on nonviolent marijuana offenses — undermining state legalization laws, opposed safe banking legislation, and even tried to remove protections for medical marijuana.”
