Milwaukee now has stricter rules on THC.

Common Council of the city unanimously passed a set of new rules prohibiting anyone younger than 21 years old from purchasing THC gummi bears or any other drinks, candies or snacks laced with THC.

Alderman Peter Burgelis claimed that a few children had become sick from eating THC gums.

“We started looking at this soon after a licensing committee meeting where we saw that someone had sold—a store clerk had sold—600mg of gummies to a child, actually handed them over the counter,” Burgelis added.

Hemp-derived THC (including delta-8) products are legal in Wisconsin.

Burgelis also said that these products were unregulated in many areas of the state.

Burgelis: “There is no regulation for hemp THC. It’s wild and wild west.”

Wisconsin has tried to regulate THC, delta-8 and other substances. However, these efforts are stalled.

In January, lawmakers said they were open to new THC regulations and delta-8 rules. However, that doesn’t mean that there is agreement about the details of these regulations.

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported in January that Sen. Chris Larson, a Democrat from Wisconsin said: “We need to make sure that purity and potency are regulated so it’s not like the wild west.”

Assembly Speaker Robin Vos was slightly more detailed about what caused the holdup.

I think [regulations are] Vos stated that this was a wise decision. But I don’t think this is likely, as Democrats are pushing to legalize marijuana for recreational use. We’re in a bind.

Milwaukee has introduced new regulations that can result in fines as high as $1,000 for each sale.

THC products or hemp that does not give a high will not be affected by city regulations.
