Aurora Cannabis Inc. a publicly-traded international cannabis company based in Canada, launched its first German medical cannabis product line on 27 January. Aurora IndiMed products will be manufactured in Leuna in Germany. This is the first time that cannabis grown in Germany has been used in Aurora products.
“Aurora is proud to deliver to the rapidly growing German market our first domestically produced medical cannabis product – a significant step forward since Germany’s move to decriminalize cannabis earlier this year. We are one of only three German facilities that have been granted cultivation licenses. This means we can offer domestic products from our EU GMP facility in Leuna Germany. It is part of Aurora’s global network. IndiMed is available to German patients because of our deep commitment to innovation and expertise in cultivation. — Michael Simon, Interim President of Aurora Europe, in a press release
IndiMed is not the first medical cannabis brand tied to an international, Canada-based firm to launch in Germany, however — last November, Aphria RX, a subsidiary of Tilray Brands, launched its first commercial medical cannabis products grown in a facility in Neumünster, Germany, MEDCAN24 reported.
Germany passed the most recent cannabis reforms in the European Union last year, allowing adults 18 years and older to use cannabis and possess it. In a survey conducted by the German government last month, 59% of Germans support legalizing cannabis and fully regulating it.
