Strains

Blackberry Kush has been a staple of the northwest for decades. Its buds are big, dense, and covered with crystals.

There is no sign of this demand slowing anytime soon. In order to meet this demand, it seems that hundreds of Kush hybrids with Southern California OG Kush have been developed. The high potency of these hybrids and their jet-fuel aroma have made them extremely popular. These hybrids are known as the “new generation” of Kush, and seem to get all the attention these days. What about the older Kush strains?

There are two major varieties of Kush. The original indica strains like Hindu Kush and the hybrid OG Kush are the two main varieties. The pure indica strains can be quite potent. However, they usually have mellower, earthier flavors and smells. Master Kush and San Fernando Valley OG have little in common. Both are Kush strains, and both are crowd pleasers.

Blackberry Kush, a Kush with a dominant indica strain, is an excellent example. Blackberry Kush is a long-time favorite in the Northwest. Its buds are dense, large and covered with sparkling crystals. The aroma of Blackberry Kush is earthy with notes of coffee, pinot noir and chocolate. This aroma translates well to the mouth and leaves a purple berry taste. It is perfect for catching up with sleep or relaxing.

Blackberry Kush, a popular hybrid, is thought to be a cross of Afghani with Blackberry. No one is credited with breeding this strain, so it’s hard to say. It seems like an older purple Kush. This is the quintessential Indica strain. Nothing in the lineage suggests sativa.

Blackberry Kush is a difficult plant to grow at times, as its tendency to pre-flower can slow the growth of this strain and reduce overall yield. The pre-flowering process occurs when plants in their vegetative phase begin to form clusters, such as hairs and pistils. This is a sign that they are well on the way to flowering. When some indica strains get stressed, they seem to develop this unusual trait. Blackberry Kush might share recessive genes with Ruderalis Autoflowering strains.

Blackberry Kush has a short finishing time and can be harvested after just seven weeks. The strain doesn’t expand much when introduced to flowering, making it perfect for the SOG method or Sea of Green. It has a leaf-to-calyx ratio of about 80%, making it easy to trim the buds at harvest. Keep all the crystals on the trim because Blackberry Kush makes some of best hash. You’ll be surprised by the taste of Blackberry Kush Ice-Water Hash.
