A poll shows that marijuana consumers say they’ll increase their cannabis use to deal with the Trump administration – MEDCAN24

A new survey shows that half of U.S. cannabis consumers expect to use more marijuana under Trump’s administration.

After a tumultuous first three months of President Donald Trump’s second term— with heightened economic anxieties and major restructuring of the federal government—the polling results indicate that many plan to turn to marijuana for reprieve.

In a survey published on Thursday and conducted by Harris Poll for cannabis company Royal Queen Seeds, it was found that 50% of marijuana consumers expect the new administration to lead them towards using more. This included 59 percent among young female adults aged 21 to 34.

These findings are consistent with another survey conducted recently, which showed that cannabis users self-reported higher stress levels than the rest of society since Trump took office.

Another poll conducted in February revealed that 7 out of 10 American marijuana users plan to either spend more or the same in 2025 as compared with last year.

The Harris Poll asked respondents about their preferences and views when purchasing cannabis from licensed retail outlets or growing plants to use personally. This survey also revealed that consumers are concerned about the quality of cannabis sold in legal markets.

In the United States, for example 54 percent believe marijuana bought in stores is pesticide-free. Cannabis consumers worry about not knowing what is in their marijuana products.

One third of cannabis users who have seen news about marijuana (32%) expressed an interest in growing plants. This could be a response to stories on product recalls or mislabeling in retailers within legal states.

In a recent press release, Shai Ramsahai said that home cultivation is gaining popularity across all demographics. This support stems not only from cost but also trust. People want to be informed about what’s going into their body. Growing cannabis can be about empowerment, wellness and transparency.

Among cannabis consumers, the poll additionally found that 15 percent already do grow their own plants—a four percentage point increase from 2024. 76 per cent said that they believed home cultivation could save them money.

Sixty-two per cent said that growing marijuana is better than buying it at a store, yet 58 per cent said it was because they were concerned with potential legal risks, even if the practice is allowed in their state.

From March 13-17, the survey interviewed 2,011 adults aged 21 or older. Of these, 782 were self-reported marijuana consumers. The margin of error for this survey is +/-2,5 percentage points.

A separate NuggMD survey released by the cannabis telehealth company last month revealed that, in contrast to the results of the poll, 73 percent marijuana users had “high” or moderate” confidence that products purchased from authorized sources do not contain mold, pesticides or other contaminants.

NuggMD also recently released a survey that found two out of three marijuana consumers say they’ve had to make the decision to spend less money on cannabis because of broader inflation in the economy.

A January poll found that more half of marijuana users said they had less or no alcohol to drink after using the drug.
