The U.S. Senate voted for a delay of one month in the federal crackdown against hemp-based products that are intoxicating. An amendment was filed to a federal budget bill which would keep the ban’s original date, November 12 as reported by The Hill.
In a vote of 61-32, Senators on Saturday rejected an amendment introduced by North Carolina senator Ted Budd.
The White House, while President Trump (R), signed into law the ban as part of the funding bill for reopening the federal government in 2017, has encouraged lawmakers to delay or change the regulations to protect the full spectrum hemp products that would be targeted by the new restrictions once the ban becomes effective.
Hemp representatives hope that this delay will allow them the time to work on federal regulations and save the billion-dollar hemp market.

Budd, meanwhile, called the sale of products containing intoxicating hemp “an urgent public health issue that demands immediate attention by this Senate.”
He said that in his report: “Our children are not the test subjects for an unregulated industry seeking to take advantage of a legal loophole for its own profit.”
