The Cannabis Health Symposium, which will take place in London on the first week of April next year, offers healthcare professionals an opportunity to earn Continuing Professional Development points (CPD), supporting their professional education and training.
CPD Certification Service granted CPD accreditation to Conway Hall for its inaugural event on November 25, 2009. The CPD Certification Service has granted the inaugural event, which takes place on Tuesday, November 25, at Conway Hall, a principle accreditation in CPD.
Clinical training for medical marijuana clinicians
The Symposium is intended to provide UK healthcare professionals with clinically grounded, expert-led information on cannabis-based medicines (CBPMs).
The event will include presentations, workshops, and case studies aimed at improving clinical understanding.
CPD (continuous professional development) is necessary to maintain the knowledge of clinicians and ensure safe practices.
Accredited learning programs in emerging areas such as medical marijuana also build confidence among prescribers.
Around 180 doctors registered on the GMC Specialist Register actively prescribe medical cannabis. This represents less than 1% (less than one percent) of all those who are authorised.
Around 80,000 CBPM patients are expected in the UK to be treated by 2025. This means that more prescribers will need to be trained to keep up with patient demand, and maintain care standards.
Expectations for the Event
The symposium will cover topics like clinical governance, NHS Integration, product consistency, safety and science behind the endocannabinoid systems. The latest research on cannabis-based medications will be presented by experts in women’s and psychiatric health, neurodivergence conditions, and neurodegenerative diseases.
A workshop series, led by Medical Cannabis Clinicians Society, will be held alongside the main program to provide practical, hands-on training. These sessions cover the basics of prescribing medical cannabis, including formulas, clinical indicators, safety considerations and professional responsibilities. Participants will have opportunities to engage directly with experienced prescribers through Q&A sessions and interactive learning.
Professor Mike Barnes, Chair of the MCCS, said the symposium would represent a ‘significant step forward for clinicians’, with the potential to benefit ‘many thousands of patients’ across the UK.
Training and Certification accredited
The symposium, which is organized in partnership between Curaleaf Laboratories & the Medical Cannabis Clinicians Society aims at empowering healthcare professionals with the confidence to incorporate cannabis-based therapies into their clinical practices.
After the event, a certificate will be issued to all clinicians who attended.
