All were ready. With every puff, the blunt lit up and glowed. Smoke whirled in the air. Coughs and laughter echoed through the room. And then, it happened — someone started telling a complete and totally detailed story.
Was it entertaining? Sure. Listening? Partially. We were more interested in the abrupt halt of the rotation, and how the blunt was being held by the orator’s fingers. The situation wasn’t terrible, but was certainly not pleasant. Hell is, as Sartre put it: other people.
The weekend will bring a lot of poolside and backyard parties, where people will get to display their manners. Most people know to not spit on the bong, to not torch the bowl when ripping, and to “puff puff pass” in group settings. Sometimes, however, details can slip through the cracks and lead to some embarrassing party blunders.
These tips will help you avoid weekend mistakes.
Do:
1. Select the Perfect Strain
Select a few strains that will not make everyone feel like zombies. Try uplifting and stimulating strains, such as Sour diesel, Orange Velvet or XJ-13, that have a happy, euphoric effect. Stay away from indica-dominant heavy strains. They can leave people feeling tired.
2. Get Prepared
Unpreparedness can ruin a party. Bring extra rolling papers and a second lighter in case your first gets caught (you’ll know that this happens a lot), pack the grinder, and bring some extra buds just to be prepared for if the party lasts longer than you expected. Pre-rolled goods can be handy to avoid wasting time during festivities.
3. Respect your hostess’ wishes
Smoking is not allowed inside if the host says so. Period. Don’t sneak off into a ventilated room and try to discreetly huff and puff out of the nearest window — that’s rude. Learn what they do and don’t like, and follow their rules, regardless if it seems reasonable. It may dampen down the holiday party, so consider hosting the next one at your home.
4. Stay Hydrated
Drinking lots of fluids is important when smoking joints. It will be very hot and you’ll want to avoid dehydration and cottonmouth. Water is essential when smoking is in full swing. Beer, wine or whatever is on offer will be drunk. You should also keep your energy up. To revive your party spirit, choose a Cannabis Energy Drink containing hemp seed oil with a caffeine kick.
5. Inform people if there’s weed in food you brought
It is nice to bring something delicious for everyone to enjoy. It’s not good to bring something delicious and share it with others without mentioning the canna butter. Put a sticky note on the guacamole, or in some way let people know what makes it special.
Don’t:
1. Write a story while you have the blunt
It’s worth repeating. While smoking a blunt, or using any other device to smoke, don’t start talking about the beautiful hike in Napa with its amazing scenery while people try not stare. Keep the constant yacking to later when people are likely to appreciate it.
2. Mega-Dose Cookie – Eat it Before Arriving
This is not the best idea. Being über-duper high all day is fine, but showing up to the festivities stoned beyond recognition won’t really make it any more fun — for anyone. Bring the remaining treat to the party and share it or nibble at it later. The cookie may hit you like a truck, and be much more than what was intended.
3. Be a Stingy Jerk
Right? Just plan to share whatever you bring with whoever is closest when it is pulled out. When the time is right, a single toke can be enjoyed. However, it shows a great deal about someone when they make their smoking an individual activity in a public setting.
4. You can’t ignore the munchies
It is important to be honest with yourself about the amount of food you will need in order to satisfy your raging munchies after an amazing session. It is likely that there will be a lot of food, but bringing extra snacks can help to keep the host from being eaten to death. The host will always be grateful for the person who brought extra chips and dips in different flavors.
5. Be That Guy
You should know how much ganja you need to consume before a couch or soft place is required. Even though everyone gets sleepy, especially after several hours of celebrations, it’s not recommended to fall asleep during a party. It’s important to take your time and not overdo it. Remember: slow and steady wins the race…and makes it through the barbeque without needing a power nap.
