Kentucky lawmakers, last week, abandoned their plan to prohibit hemp-derived THC in drinks and amended instead the Bill Limit THC content in beverages infused with THC to 5% WDRB reports. After the Senate, the bill will now be sent to the House.
Alcoholic Beverage Control is responsible for the enforcement of this bill.
State Sen. Julie Raque Adams (R) proposed the initial ban, noting that due to the 2018 federal Farm Bill “there was a disconnect” between state law – which does not permit adult-use cannabis use – and the “federal loophole” legalizing hemp-derived THC products.
The adults do not know the effects, and we cannot expect children to understand them. It was important to stop the spread of this product across the state. — Adams to WDRB
Retailers have a grace period to get rid of stock that doesn’t comply with the new regulations.
The bill passed the chamber 29-6 and was sent to the House Licensing, Occupations, & Administrative Regulations Committee.
