Sales totaled $130.8 millions in March. This is just shy of December’s holiday sales peak.
The relatively young Missouri marijuana market – medical sales launched in 2020 and recreational three years later – appears to be holding steady thus far in 2025, even as some of its more mature state counterparts have seen sales plunge.
The midwestern cannabis market in March sold $130.8 million worth of marijuana, including $115.7 million on the adult-use side and another $15.1 million in medical products, according to statistics from the state Department of Health & Senior Services.
It’s been the best sales month so far in the year and is almost equal to December’s $130.9m holiday peak. The sales dropped in January, to $122.8 millions and then again to $116.2 in February. They rebounded a bit in March.
The state also sold more recreational cannabis than it did in March of last year, which was $108.6 millions. It also sold medical marijuana worth $16million.
But the market has also diverged – as most state cannabis markets have over time – with medical sliding downward and recreational gaining steam.
Sales of $40.2 millions peaked just two months ahead of the start date for adult use in December 2022. The medical marijuana market has been losing its share of the overall cannabis industry since then. Recreational sales have soared, from just $93.4 million in its first month, to an average monthly revenue nearing nine figures.
In February 2024 recreational dispensaries and medical dispensaries both sold less than $100 million.
There is no doubt that the medical sector has stabilized around the $14-$15 million sales level per month. This was the same for the previous 12 months. Medical patients spent just $13.7 Million in February, the lowest month for medical sales.
The total sales of marijuana in the world as at March reached $3.7 billion.
