Ohio House proposal would set THC limits but leave cannabis home grows unaffected – MEDCAN24

News 5 Cleveland has reported on a proposed amendment to the Ohio House of Representatives that would limit the legalization of cannabis by voters in Ohio.

The legislation, introduced Thursday by Rep. Brian Stewart(R), is an alternative bill to the recently passed Senate Bill that had been criticized as attempting to override the voters who had overwhelmingly approved of the adult-use marijuana program in the state.

House Bill 160 is also similar to the Senate’s proposal in that it would limit the number of cannabis dispensaries allowed by the state. It would however not change the home-grow laws of the state or the cannabis possession limit, an aspect that was particularly unpopular in the Senate’s proposal. House bill also has less restrictions on cannabis consumption, whereas Senate’s bill does not allow public consumption.

This bill is a respect for the wishes of voters. It also acknowledges that supporters and backers of Issue 2 accepted the fact that the marijuana laws would still be subjected to reforms from the Ohio Legislature. — Stewart, via News 5 Cleveland

This bill also bans advertising or packaging of cannabis that might be considered attractive to children and redirects the tax revenues from cannabis towards the general fund.

In Ohio, however, cannabis dispensaries have sold 255 million dollars in products in the first six months of the program. The state collects an excise duty on this industry at 10%, which was approved by the voters.
