WYFF reported that the South Carolina Senate voted last week to approve new restrictions regarding consumable hemp products.

H.3924 originated from the House of Representatives, but the state Senate added several amendments to it during the session. The bill was finally passed on third reading with 35-4 votes.

The current framework, which closely mirrors state alcohol regulations, allows for the sale in convenience and grocery stores of 12-ounce drinks containing up to 5 milligrams THC. Alcohol stores could sell stronger and larger drinks, along with hemp-infused gum products. It would be illegal to sell hemp to anyone under the age of 21.

The bill was also modified to permit on-site THC use. According to supporters, this is the “most conservative law on-site in the country.” Reports state that the rules limit the consumption of THC-infused drinks to two per 24 hours. Customers will also not be allowed order alcohol or hemp-infused beverages together at the same event.

Retailers will continue to sell their existing stock of hemp THC until the new federal legislation is implemented on November 12, 2026.

A provision was also added to the law that bans intoxicating products of hemp on Sunday, mirrored by alcohol regulations.

Now that the bill has been amended, it will be considered by the House.
