Houston Public Media has reported on a poll conducted by University of Houston Hobby School of Public Affairs that found 62% of Texas residents in favor of legalizing adult-use marijuana. According to the poll of 1,200 adults, with a margin error of 2.38%, both Democrats and Republicans (both 53%) supported legalization.
The public’s support for reforms was higher: 79% supported legalizing medical marijuana for a variety of purposes, with or without a prescription from a physician.
Texas Lt. Dan Patrick (R), said that last year, some companies took advantage of a hole in the 2019 state bill by allowing the sale of consumable products made from hemp. He also stated the lawmakers’ top priority would be to ban hemp-derived THC. In January, AG commissioner Sid Miller supported the lieutenant-governor’s proposal to ban hemp intoxicants, and called on legislators to expand the medical cannabis program in the state.
A poll revealed that 55%, including 61% Republicans and 48% Democrats, supported the ban on hemp THC. Pollsters found that 70 percent of Gen Z respondents were in favor of a hemp THC prohibition, compared with 46% for the Silent Generation/Baby Boomer group and 49% for Gerneration X.
