Washington, D.C. officials conducted an operation on Orbit D.C., a cannabis store located at 18th Street NW, on April 24, 2025. This was the 50th raid in Washington’s crackdown against illegal cannabis businesses. It was discovered that the establishment sold unauthorized cannabis and psychedelic mushroom products. The arrest of a 30-year-old female on marijuana charges was made.

This action falls under a larger initiative, which started in 2024 after the passage of legislation that aimed to eradicate the gray-market and integrate businesses within the legal framework for medical cannabis. Infiltrative investigations and reports from the community have played a key role in identifying establishments that are not compliant. To date, seventeen individuals have faced criminal prosecution, and 45 business have successfully converted to medical cannabis operations.

Alcoholic Beverage and Cannabis Administration reports that the April 2025 medical cannabis sale is expected to surpass $4 million. Even with these advances, there are still 30 unlicensed stores and a few online sellers under investigation. ABCA director Fred Moosally stressed the importance of this effort in ensuring safety and health for public, stating: “The goal is to create a legal market for medical cannabis.”Â
