Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp, (R) signed into law Tuesday the bipartisan expansion of medical cannabis bill passed in March by state legislators.
New law removes state cap of 5% THC on cannabis products, and also adds autism and lupus as qualifying conditions. The law also adds THC-infused gummies and cannabis flower — for vaping purposes only — to the program, changing the term to describe the products that are available to patients from “low THC oil” to “medical cannabis.”
In place of a cap on the percentage of THC, now products can contain as much as 12,000 milligrams. Under the new program, smoking medical cannabis is still prohibited. However, vapes for adults 21 years and older will be allowed.
Officials from the state have until Jan. 1, 2027 to establish rules and regulations, which include a tracking system for “seeds-to-sales”.
