Marijuana Moment reported that the New Jersey Home Grow Coalition – which is made up of dozens small cannabis businesses, advocacy groups and cannabis growers – has called on state lawmakers to legalize home cannabis grows.
They wrote to New Jersey Senate president Nicholas Scutari, (D), in an open message that[legalizing] Medical home cultivation does not impact on the state’s legal cannabis industry, and the group supports home-grown marijuana for personal use. This coalition position is contrary to an assertion made by Governor. Phil Murphy (D), along with some legislators, argued that home cultivation would be detrimental to state licensed cannabis licensees and would benefit the industry more if personal cultivation regulations were delayed.
We support the legalization of home medical cultivation immediately for both patients and caregivers. “We also support additional legislation being introduced to allow the legalization and equitable use of home cultivation for personal purposes.” — Excerpt from the letter
Group members also asked for changes to S1393/A846, the legislation that seeks to legalize home-grown medical cannabis, so as to limit home grows based on canopy size and not by plant count. Coalition members argue that the changes would enable patients to grow the amount of cannabis they need and allow caregivers the freedom to do so.
