The Columbus Dispatch reported that the Ohio Senate passed a measure this week to nullify parts of the cannabis legalization bill approved by voters in Ohio.
The bill — which was passed Wednesday by Senate Republicans in a 23-9 party-line vote — would implement many changes to the state’s cannabis law, including:
- Limit the number of cannabis plants you can grow at home from 12 to 6.
- Remove the social equity program and job creation in the industry
- Implementing tighter THC limits on products for adult use, such as a cap of 35% on flowers and 70% on concentrates.
- Anyone who vapes or smokes cannabis in a car will be sentenced to a minimum of 3 days imprisonment.
- Reduce the cultivation area for large licensed cultivators in California
- The state has capped the number of cannabis dispensaries at 350.
- And giving the CDC new powers to regulate marijuana advertisements.
Republican lawmakers claimed that provisions in the bill would prevent illegal cannabis activities, without interfering with consumers’ rights to legally access cannabis. Senate Democrats claim that this proposal is an overreach of the legislative branch on a matter that voters have already resolved.

Next, the proposal will be considered by the House of Representatives.
Ohio voters are expected to approve current cannabis laws in 2023. Ohio’s market for adult-use marijuana was launched in 2013. Ohio dispensaries have sold 255 million dollars worth of cannabis products within the first six month.
