Vermont’s Lieutenant Governor wants to let cannabis cultivators sell directly to consumers

Vermont Lieutenant Governor John Rodgers’ (R) call to lawmakers is to amend Vermont cannabis laws so that cannabis growers can sell directly to customers. Vermont Public Radio reports. Rodgers is also calling for the change of law that would allow marijuana to be consumed in places where tobacco smoking is permitted.

“We’ve legalized marijuana – cannabis – and there are people who have apartments, have no place to smoke. Smoking cannabis should be permitted anywhere that tobacco products are sold. — Rodgers to VPR

Rodgers said to VPR that the small growers’ businesses are at risk because they don’t have access to shelves in state stores. dispensaries.

Rodgers, speaking to VPR, said that retailers can now impose their will on people. They can choose which growers they deal with. This leaves a lot of good ones without enough customers.

Rodgers holds the U.S.’s only cannabis cultivator licence among state elected officials. Rodgers is seeking changes to a bill passed by the House of Representatives last month and currently under consideration in the Senate. This would include background checks, rules on license changes, as well as other administrative reforms.
