I’m obliged to give Kim K. props for her contribution to normalizing cannabis, but it’s just the tip of the cola, if you will, when it comes to the world of high hospitality. From elegant tray passing affairs to infused dinner parties, entertaining with cannabis comes in many different forms. No matter the type of cannabis event you host, it’s important to educate your guests about the cannabis products that will be consumed throughout the night.
Serving infused bites? Tell guests the dose! Mixing up mocktails? Share your tinctures with them! Are you staging a stunning bud-bar? What’s the difference between each item, and where they come from? Know your products. A well-designed joint tray is one of my favorite ways to begin a cannabis-themed party. It can be served with non-alcoholic beverages and some tasty bites. I’m a firm believer in the joint tray as the perfect pot party starter because when done well, a joint tray is more than just beautiful—it’s also an ideal way to encourage your guests to mix, mingle and meet. Who hasn’t met a friend through a joint shared or the quest to find a lighter. Follow these tips to create the ideal joint tray for any cannabis-themed culinary event.
What are the necessities? Roll enough joints for two people using your favourite flower. As guests puff, they will make new friends. You should also have plenty lighters on hand, since we all know how easily they can disappear in pockets or purses.

For fall, brightly colored autumn leaves are perfect for a harvest-inspired look. Citrus is a great winter decoration. If you choose a citrus variety that’s high in limonene, your guests will learn about terpenes. For a springtime party, anything green or in bloom from your garden will do. High Hospitality tip: Line your joints by placing flat long leaves on your tray. All kinds of leaves work, but fern leaves are my favorite. To prevent them from drying out and becoming brittle, wrap leaves in damp paper towels until ready to use.
What Pairs Well Together? If you want to pass a variety, match it with an offering. Have a high beta-caryophyllene Purple Punch? Parmesan popcorn and freshly cracked black pepper are a great match. In the Pines is pinene heavy. Try rosemary roasted potatoes bites. Remember, you don’t need to be a professional chef to create perfect pairings if you let terpenes be your guide.
